This is a Technical Superintendent role for bulk carriers in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Focus is on vessel attendances, drydockings, and marine engineering. You will be working in an English-speaking international team. This is a freelance assignment with travel, accommodation, local transport, and meals arranged for approved attendances; relocation is not expected for this role.

What You’ll Be Working On:

You will support the technical management of two bulk carriers trading mainly within the EU and Mediterranean region. Routine attendances are expected to take place mostly in Mediterranean ports, including locations such as Turkey and Greece, while drydockings are typically planned within the wider Black Sea region, such as Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania.

The anticipated yearly scope includes three routine attendances per vessel per year, usually lasting 4 to 7 days each, and approximately one drydock per year, lasting around 10 to 30 days depending on the yard scope and schedule. Daily workload may vary, with routine port attendances often closer to a standard working day and drydock periods requiring more flexibility.

What You’ll Do:

  • Attend the vessels during planned routine port visits and drydockings.
  • Support the technical management team with onboard inspections, technical follow-up, and practical engineering input.
  • Monitor vessel condition, technical issues, repair progress, and maintenance-related actions during attendances.
  • Coordinate with vessel crew, suppliers, service providers, shipyards, and the project team during attendance periods.
  • Follow up on drydock work scopes, daily progress, technical questions, and emerging repair items.
  • Provide clear reporting after attendances, including observations, completed actions, open issues, and recommended follow-up.
  • Help ensure that technical decisions during attendances are practical, engineering-based, and aligned with the vessel’s operational needs.

Profile

What You Bring:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Superintendent or in a closely related technical vessel-management role.
  • A strict marine engineering background.
  • Academic or university-level marine engineering education.
  • Familiarity with shipyard coordination, repair scopes, technical reporting, and supplier follow-up.
  • Practical experience with merchant vessels, ideally bulk carriers.
  • Ability to attend vessels and drydockings across the EU, Mediterranean, and wider Black Sea region.
  • Good command of English for communication with crew, suppliers, shipyards, and project stakeholders.
  • Experience with bulk carrier technical management would be an advantage.
  • Previous drydock attendance experience in Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, or the wider Black Sea and Mediterranean region is preferred.

Role: Senior / Lead Naval Architect Workplace: Rotterdam Start: August 2026 Duration: Temporary to permanent position Contract: Full-time employment Focus: Offshore vessel design, naval architecture, analysis, class requirements, and yard support As a Senior Naval Architect, you will work on offshore vessel projects where technical detail and practical execution go hand in hand. You will be involved from concept design through to basic and detailed design, and you may also support the project during yard or site activities. Your job is to deliver naval architecture work that is technically correct, safe, cost-aware, and aligned with the project planning. On some projects, you will be part of a wider team. On others, you may lead a small team of Naval Architects and Designers. Where You’ll Work: You will join an international offshore engineering company. This is not a role where your work stays only on paper. Your designs and analyses need to support real project decisions, practical vessel solutions, and the work being done at the site or in the yard. What You’ll Be Working On: You will work on the design and analysis of offshore vessels. That includes hydrostatic, hydrodynamic and structural analyses, as well as finite element and fatigue analysis where required. You will help turn project requirements, class rules and client expectations into safe and cost-efficient vessel designs. You will also answer technical questions from site, clients, certifying authorities and subcontractors, so projects can keep moving with clear engineering input. What You’ll Do: Deliver naval architecture work in line with project specifications, budget and planning. Work on concept design, basic design, detailed design and yard support for offshore vessels. Carry out and review hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, structural, finite element and fatigue analyses. Lead or coordinate Naval Architects and Designers when required. Organise the scope, priorities and deliverables within your part of the project. Keep the Lead Engineer or Project Engineer informed about progress, setbacks and concerns. Spot technical risks or unusual issues and raise them early. Reply to questions from site, clients, certifying authorities and subcontractors. Work with other disciplines to include class and client requirements in the design. Support activities abroad or at a shipyard when the project needs it.

Your work supports the build of technically advanced yachts where quality, detail, and practical engineering decisions matter every day. Where You’ll Work: You will work at an engineering office located close to the production halls, allowing you to stay closely connected to the build process. You can check details on the shop floor, see how your drawings are used in practice, and receive direct feedback from the teams building the yacht. The environment is open, practical, and technically driven, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, quality, and well-considered engineering decisions. What You’ll Be Working On: As Piping Engineer Superyachts, you will work within the Piping Engineering department. This department is responsible for the technical design of yacht piping and works closely with shipbuilding engineering, interior engineering, work preparation, and production. You will focus on systems that are often hidden from view but essential to the performance and comfort of the superyacht. These include ventilation, heating, hydraulics, sanitary systems, pipework, routing, and technical spaces. Every yacht is unique, which means each project brings new interfaces, space constraints, and custom technical solutions. What You’ll Do: Design mechanical layouts and technical systems for high-end custom superyachts. Prepare pipework drawings, piping schematics, and routing plans based on the engineering design plan. Detail panels, components, and technical spaces with attention to fit, access, integration, and production feasibility. Coordinate with the project lead, work preparation, and production teams to keep drawings aligned with planning and build requirements.
