You work at the early stage of the engineering process, defining what technical systems and equipment the yacht will need, how much space they require and where they should be located.

You translate the yacht concept into a technically feasible overall arrangement that provides the basis for the later detailed engineering.
Your work includes developing and updating the main construction plan, defining the arrangement of decks, bulkheads, primary structural elements and major structural interfaces, and ensuring the design works together with machinery spaces, accommodation, equipment and other disciplines.
You develop preliminary structural designs and layouts.
You work with AutoCAD 2D and Siemens NX.

Profile

Do you have what it takes to be a Structural Basic Engineer for Superyachts?

Minimum 3 years of experience in yacht or shipbuilding projects.
A Bachelor or Master education in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related study.
Relevant software knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and Siemens NX.

If your background is in marine engineering or mechanical engineering, this Senior Marine Engineer position offers responsibility for the complete engineering process. You will develop and integrate marine systems while coordinating interfaces, suppliers, and verification activities. The role is based within an English-speaking environment, with a hybrid working arrangement. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to the Netherlands. Where You’ll Work You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on naval vessels and other complex maritime projects. The scope covers auxiliary systems and ship outfitting, from concept and detail design through supplier coordination, verification and testing. You will work with mechanical, electrical, structural and control engineers, as well as suppliers, clients and classification societies. Projects must comply with class rules, statutory regulations, client standards and military requirements. What You’ll Do Develop concepts and detail designs for fuel, cooling, HVAC, compressed-air, exhaust-gas, seawater and firefighting systems. Translate operational and client requirements into system designs, calculations, specifications and engineering documentation. Prepare and review technical specifications, calculations, assessments and other deliverables. Manage mechanical, electrical, structural, control and spatial interfaces throughout the ship design. Apply class rules, regulations and client standards, including DNV, ABS, SOLAS and MARPOL requirements. Define requirements for procurement, evaluate supplier proposals and resolve technical deviations and clarifications. Coordinate verification, validation and testing, including design reviews, FAT, HAT and sea trials. Act as a technical contact, monitor risks and progress, review and coach junior engineers.

Role: Outfitting Engineer for Superyachts Workplace: Amsterdam region, Netherlands Start: ASAP Duration: Long-term Contract: Employment contract or freelance assignment Focus: Outfitting engineering, exterior outfitting parts, manufacturability, Class and Flag compliance, supplier coordination As an Outfitting Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering of technically demanding outfitting parts on high-end custom superyachts. You will work across design, engineering, production, and suppliers to make sure each item is feasible, buildable, compliant, and delivered to the required quality level. This role is available both as a permanent employment position and as a freelance assignment. Where You’ll Work: You will work in a specialist engineering office connected to a shipyard, focused on custom superyachts over 100 metres. You will be part of a project-driven engineering team, working closely with lead engineers, project engineers, production, purchasing, and external suppliers. What You’ll Be Working On: Your focus will be on outfitting scope for large superyacht projects. This can include exterior outfitting elements such as railings, flagpoles, stairs, jacuzzi and pool outfitting, and other detailed components that must be engineered with care. You will be involved from an early project stage, giving input on technical feasibility, manufacturability, supplier choices, and compliance with project requirements. You will also help maintain standards, best practices, and lessons learned across projects. What You’ll Do: Develop and refine detailed engineering designs, 3D models and technical drawings. Take responsibility for outfitting scope items across multiple yacht projects. Review technical feasibility, manufacturability and buildability. Ensure designs comply with Class, Flag, internal standards and project specifications. Coordinate design input with suppliers, subcontractors and other external parties. Work closely with senior engineers, production teams, purchasing and project leads. Support supplier selection and technical discussions during the purchasing process. Keep track of progress, status and technical risks within your scope. Contribute to cost-saving ideas and smarter engineering solutions. Use lessons learned from engineering, production, refit, services and suppliers to improve future work.
