Job description

As a Lead Engineer Marine Systems, you are responsible for the design of marine systems and machinery arrangements for newbuild vessels and major conversions. You combine hands-on engineering with project leadership, client contact and the technical guidance of designers and engineers.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Determine the marine system specifications together with the client.
Design and engineer marine systems and machinery arrangements from scratch.
Make pump, drive and propulsion calculations, system diagrams and layouts of technical spaces such as engine and pump rooms.
Lead the engineering project and guide designers and engineers, while remaining focused on the technical work yourself.
Ensure designs meet applicable classification requirements, including Lloyd’s Register and Bureau Veritas.
Investigate solutions for the maritime energy transition, such as alternative fuel systems and energy-efficiency measures.

Profile

Technical knowledge & soft skills:

Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or comparable;
Around 8 years of experience in a similar position;
Experience developing marine systems and machinery arrangements;
Knowledge of system components, piping materials and vessel layouts;
Knowledge of relevant classification and authority requirements;
Experience with engineering and design tools;
Knowledge of electrical systems is a plus.

Role: Marine HVAC Engineer Work location: Vlissingen, the Netherlands – hybrid, with up to two days per week working from home Start: ASAP Duration: One year, with the possibility of extension Contract: Employment contract Language: Dutch and English Focus: HVAC-R systems and their technical integration into complex naval vessels Due to the military nature of the project, we will only consider EU citizens. Where You’ll Work You will work on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, cooling and refrigeration systems for complex naval vessels. Your involvement covers the full engineering process, from initial proposals and design requirements to testing and final vessel delivery. Working alongside engineers from different disciplines, you will ensure that HVAC-R systems fit into the overall ship design and meet contractual requirements. Daily contact with the customer and subcontractors forms part of the role, alongside coordination with internal departments, suppliers and regulatory bodies. What You’ll Do Prepare technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors based on customer requirements and ship design requirements. Evaluate subcontractor quotations together with procurement, checking their technical suitability and compliance. Review supplier documentation, including mechanical drawings, system schematics, calculations and electrical diagrams. Coordinate the integration of supplied HVAC-R components and systems with internal engineering departments, subcontractors, regulatory bodies and the vessel owner. If your background combines shipbuilding engineering with functional application management, this Functional Application Specialist Cadmatic Hull position in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, offers a clear link between engineering and IT. You will configure Cadmatic Hull project environments, translate user needs into application functionality and support colleagues working on complex naval vessels. English is the working language, while Dutch would be an advantage. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to the Netherlands. Where You’ll Work You will join an international engineering support team working on advanced naval vessels. The team supports the CAD and PLM applications used throughout the product lifecycle, from setting up project environments to assisting engineering users during ongoing projects.
