Role: Mechanical Design Engineer – Inventor
Work location: Den Bosch area, the Netherlands

Focus: Mechanical design and detailing of steel structures using Autodesk Inventor, with attention to welding and manufacturing methods.

Due to the military nature of the project, we will only consider EU citizens.

Where You’ll Work

You will join a project team developing mechanical equipment with welded steel structures. The team is looking for two to three experienced engineers to help with the design and detailing phase.

The work calls for a practical understanding of how steel components are manufactured and assembled. Experience from shipbuilding, structural steelwork or other mechanical engineering sectors is relevant, provided you understand welded constructions and the manufacturing processes behind your designs.

What You’ll Do

Develop 3D models of mechanical assemblies and steel structures in Autodesk Inventor.
Prepare detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings.
Perform engineering calculations to substantiate your designs.
Account for welding, bending, turning and milling when designing and detailing components.

What You Bring

Must-haves:

A relevant technical or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
Extensive experience with mechanical design and complex engineering problems.
Experience designing welded steel structures, gained in shipbuilding, structural steelwork or another relevant engineering sector.
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
Practical knowledge of welding, bending, turning and milling, and how these processes influence design.
Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
EU citizenship.

Nice to have:

Dutch language skills.

Where You’ll Work You will join a naval organisation responsible for maintaining vessels and their systems throughout their lifecycle. The projects section coordinates scheduled maintenance and modifications for frigates and offshore patrol vessels, working with internal specialists and external contractors. Alongside project managers, project planners, ship coordinators and project support colleagues, you will take responsibility for technically complex projects that have stalled or require corrective action. These projects involve multiple commissioning stakeholders and interconnected subprojects, requiring clear agreements, practical improvements and consistent follow-through. What You’ll Do Assess stalled or problematic projects, identify the causes and agree an improvement programme with stakeholders. Implement structured improvements and restore project control within revised, agreed delivery parameters. Prepare and maintain Project Initiation Documentation (PID), defining the agreed activities and deliverables. Coordinate delivery of the activities set out in the PID and verify their completion. Prepare and update plans covering activities, milestones, financial commitments, payments, personnel and material resources. Manage interconnected subprojects and stakeholder requirements while controlling quality, time and cost within delegated limits. Maintain a risk register, identify risks early and take action to reduce their impact. Report periodically on progress and results, recommending changes or corrective actions where required.

Role: Electrical Detail Engineer Workplace: Rotterdam, Netherlands Start: ASAP Duration: Long-term, up to one year or more Contract: Employment contract or freelance assignment Focus: Electrical detail drawings, as-built documentation, naval vessel modifications, EPLAN, MicroStation, CAD You will convert electrical drawings, mark-ups, redlines, and engineering input into accurate as-built and detail drawings for naval vessel maintenance and modification projects. Your work helps make sure the final drawing package reflects the actual onboard situation, with clear traceability between the original design, field input, and final documentation. This role is available both as a permanent employment position and as a freelance assignment. Where You’ll Work: You will work from the Den Helder engineering office on a naval vessel project. What You’ll Be Working On: Naval vessels include many electrical systems and interfaces that must be documented with care. In this role, you will focus on electrical installations, onboard modifications, system interfaces, and as-built documentation. You will work from existing drawings, mark-ups, field input, and approved design changes, translating them into clear and usable detail drawings. Your work supports engineering, maintenance, production, and final project handover. What You’ll Do: Convert electrical mark-ups, redlines, and engineering input into accurate as-built and detail drawings. Update electrical drawings and documentation in line with project standards, vessel configuration, and approved design changes. Where You’ll Work You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on complex naval vessels. Your scope covers the subcontracting and detailed engineering of joinery for accommodation and technical spaces, translating customer and design requirements into specifications that suppliers and production teams can use. The work connects interior engineering with procurement, supplier selection, quality inspections, and construction. You will coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure that joinery and insulation fit the vessel’s design and integrate with its other systems. What You’ll Do Develop functional and detailed technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors, translating customer and design requirements into joinery solutions that meet applicable standards and regulations. Coordinate subcontractor engineering and check that the detailed joinery design meets project requirements.
